SANTA MARTA

Santa Marta is the capital of the department of Magdalena. It is the ideal place to organize the various activities and excursions throughout the region, such as:

- Explore the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Tayrona National Park

- Book a 5-day trek to “Ciudad Perdida”

- Bird watching in the Cuchillo San Lorenzo

- Organize an excursion in the desert of La Guajira

 

Santa Marta is also known for its beaches such as Rodadero, Taganga or Belo Horizonte. They are pretty but crowded with street vendors (which takes away a little charm from the different landscapes), despite everything I really enjoyed my moments there.

 

Nightlife in Santa Marta is quite lively. Direction Rodadero to party in the big Colombian nightclubs or the center to go around the bars, which are very nice for my taste.

 

To get there, direct buses or door-to-door shuttles leave from Cartagena (5-6 hours). There is also an airport 25 minutes from the historic center.
